The twists and turns of life.......

As you can see in the picture, there is a huge crane that is situated right below our church. It is there because a high-end condo complex high-rise is being built directly below our property. So when we go to the edge of our parking lot on that side, all we see now is a huge, huge hole being dug and a very steep cut in the hill. There is a fence protecting our property. But alot of our people as well as some of the neighbours have been feeling very uneasy about the site because alot of us felt it was not shored up properly and the steep cut was way too close to our property. I particularly thought of our children who are naturally curious and a shiver went up my spine as I thought of what could happen if they somehow got through the fence. I remember praying at one point, "Lord, please put your protecting hand over them." Last Thursday about 3:30 P.M. , a 47 year old father of three was buried and killed as he was waiting in his truck at the bottom to haul some dirt away. A 30 meter wall of dirt and rock collapsed taking part of our property with it and covered the truck. He probably didn't know what hit him. What a tragedy for his family. We are praying for them and we sorrow with them. Pastor Anthony met his two sons who worked with their father. Very devastating to the whole family. Would you pray for them as they face this sadness in their lives and a loss of a beloved husband, father and grandfather?
The developers had hired a surveyor to come in last week and he did come on Wed. but left the premises because he saw a crack in the wall and just had a feeling it was not safe to be working there. He reported it to his boss. As a result of the cave-in, our church was issued a no occupancy permit on Thursday night so this Sunday we will be meeting at 1P.M. at the Covenant Church just south of us for our Sunday service. They graciously offered their facilities for this Sunday. Jim and I went up to the church on Thursday night and the whole parking lot was cordoned off with yellow tape and a police car was at the entrance to our property making sure no one went in. We won't be allowed back in until a thorough investigation has been done and our church is deemed safe. This not only impacts our congregation but the people who rent our facilities. There are questions being asked.....like why does an accident have to happen before some action is done? and are the work places and construction sites unsafe because of trying to get jobs done too quickly? We don't know at this point what is going to happen but God knows and how comforting to know that He is in control of our lives even in the twists and turns............. .

HOW TRAGIC!! Too bad that they all went to work on Thursday when the surveyor was there the day before!
We will pray for that man's family. Were his sons there to witness it?
We will pray for the church too.
